Laser Hair Removal Frequently Asked QuestionsThis question comes from Curious via Yahoo! Answers:

Q: Arms Laser Hair Removal Question: How can i do it without having a sharp contrast around my mid-arm?

I tried one time laser removal, it hurts and it costs but i think it’s the best solution…
Only problem is, i ended up having a big contrast (no hair/long hair zone) around my mid arms (around T-shirt sleeve length)…

Notes:
- I a man with long hair on my arms and upper back
- I don’t like shaving, bleaching or waxing, I want a permanent solution…
- Shaving my forearms is not a solution (it’s not manly!!!)

A: You’re correct: laser hair removal might be a great solution for you.

It is the fastest, most cost-efficient method of permanent hair reduction. Also, it’s certainly possible to reduce the density of hair in an area without removing all the hair, leaving nothing but bare skin.

Laser hair removal works by targeting hair shafts and destroying them without damaging the surrounding skin. It varies from person to person, but most people need 5-7 treatments with a period of 4-8 weeks in between each session. This is because hair grows in three phases and can only be permanently disabled in the first phase, the active growing phase.

After 4-6 treatments, you should see a considerable reduction of hair growth as hairs in the active growth stage have been destroyed and hairs treated only in the latter two stages continue to grow. If a patient stops treatment before completing the full 5-7 treatments, he or she should have a permanent reduction in density.

Laser hair removal might be, for you, a better choice than shaving or waxing because it is permanent and can decrease the density of hair without first removing all the hair in the area. Laser hair removal is also more cost effective than electrolysis as multiple hairs can be treated at once (electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method, but it involves treating one hair at a time, so it can take a considerably long time to complete a large area and can be expensive).

It is important to choose an experienced laser hair removal specialist who is careful to not miss any areas during treatment, as this could result in spotty or splotchy hair regrowth patterns.
