How Popular are Laser Cosmetic Procedures?
Laser Gal has been posting a series relating to the “Truth of Cosmetic Enhancements.” In her first two posts, she discussed how certain celebrities try to keep their experience with cosmetic procedures hidden, and how, by contrast, other celebrities embrace the popularity of cosmetic procedures in their lifestyle of looking good and feeling great.
In this post, we take a bird’s eye view of the popularity of some of the laser cosmetic sessions offered at Assara Laser.

Let’s have a look at how many Americans are having laser cosmetic procedures:
Size of the Laser Hair Removal Consumer Group
In the United States, laser hair removal is the fastest growing non-surgical aesthetic laser cosmetic procedure. The number of performed laser hair removal sessions is projected to grow 18 percent per year, which means there will be an estimated 6,000,000 laser hair removal procedures performed in 2010!
Hair removal is most popular among women—virtually all women over 12 years old engage in the practice in some way, shape or form. Also, laser hair removal for men is growing in popularity, as men seek lasting hair removal solutions – on the neck, to address issues of ingrown hairs, and on the chest, back and shoulders, mostly, for cosmetic purposes. Size of the Laser Skin Rejuvenation / Anti-Aging Consumer Group
In 2006, 1,800,000 Americans had skin rejuvenation procedures. Further, this number represents an almost 29% increase from 2005. Assuming the practice grows at its current pace, Americans will have over 2,890,000 sessions this year, and over 4,400,000 by 2010. Based on the above statistics, we see that both laser hair removal and laser skin rejuvenation procedures are rapidly increasing in popularity.
Let’s turn next to what clients are saying. HairRemovalJournal.org a national association of laser cosmetic practitioners recently took a survey of the people receiving these procedures. Here’s what they reported:
A whopping 89% of people who have had laser hair removal sessions in the past reported that they would do the treatments again.
The most common fear we’ve heard voiced by our clients, who are about to receive a laser hair removal treatment is that they’re afraid that the treatment will hurt. The HairRemovalJournal also reported on this:

The HairRemovalJournal survey seems to indicate that there is some measurable amount of discomfort involved in the laser hair removal treatment. 51% of the people reported that they experienced mild discomfort, and 43% reported that they felt moderate pain.
So, that’s the skinny, readers. The number of people doing laser cosmetic procedures is increasing rapidly, as anecodotal evidence seemed to suggest. Laser hair removal is ever increasing in popularity. Also, although there is some discomfort associated with a laser hair removal session, in retrospect, the vast majority of people who have tried laser hair removal would do it again.
As always, we would love to hear your thoughts. Let us know by email or by commenting. Have you considered or tried laser hair removal before? Why did you decide to have (or not to have) your session? Were you satisfied with the results? Would you recommend the laser cosmetic session to your friends?
