Question:
Whats the difference [between IPL hair removal and laser hair removal] and which would you recommend? Which is more effective and which is safer? I have pale skin and dark hair and am planning on having legs, g string and stomach done. Thanks!
Answer:
Hi,
We would–of course–only recommend laser. Lasers are both more effective and safer than Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). IPL uses a beam of incoherent light, often with a cream or gel, to burn the hair shaft. A serious flaw with these systems is that they lack the laser’s ability to produce a selective bandwidth of light that will only affect the hair follicle.

Question:
How effective is laser hair removal?
Answer:
Hi,
Laser hair removal works by sending a targeted pulse laser light directly into your hair follicle. The light is absorbed by the melanin (or pigment) in your hair follicle and converted into heat, which permanently disables your hair follicles from growing a new hair. The darker the hair, the better able the laser will be concentrated in the hair shaft, destroying it. However, many lasers exist on the market that can treat dark skin–Cynosure’s Elite system, for example.

Question:
Is it ok to have laser hair removal on upper lip while on acne medication?
Answer:
The short answer to this is it depends on the type of medication. Certain acne medications, like Accutane, will make a person’s skin hypersensitive to light, sunlight and laser light included. Each person should check with their doctor or dermatologist to find out the partciular risks of their Rx acne medication.
Also, certain over-the-counter acne treatments–like alphahydroxy acids or betahydroxcy acids–can make a person’s skin very sensitive.

Question: Where on your body can you get laser hair removal?
Answer: Laser hair removal is appropriate for almost all of your body. This includes the face, upper and lower body (i.e., the chest, back and legs), the underarms, and the bikini line or a full brazilian. Generally, wherever the human body grows hair, there is a corresponding laser treatment to remove it.
Neck/Upper Lip/Chin/Eyebrows
Many women have problems with unwanted facial hair, particularly in the areas of the eyebrow, upper lip, and chin. Men may want to remove hair on their faces as well, such as from between the eyebrows or the beard area.

Question:
I have light skin and have used a laser hair remover without there being any side effects. My friend has darker skin and wants to try it out too. Would there be any problems? Most laser hair removers say that they are not suitable for darker skin types but she is mixed race. Would she be able to use it? If not, why not?

Question:
Does anyone have a rough estimate for laser hair removal?
I know that it varies a lot and that you may need multiple treatments but just a rough estimate for basically my entire body. I have light brown to dark hair.
