Hi Y’all,
I consider myself pretty hapless and helpless when it comes to dating. If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’ll probably agree. The one place where I kick everyone’s butt is in straight-up knowledge about hair removal. I’m better than Wikipedia when it comes to ingrown hair, stubble, and grooming. So you can imagine my surprise when readers email questions about unruly boyfriends and guys who can’t commit. Gee… I’m sorry, I just don’t know much about that.
What I do know is that on a first date it’s all about the visual. How does he look? What is he wearing? Is that a hair growing out of his nose? Does it look like he has wild angry yaks sprouting hairs from underneath his shirt collar? Sounds narcissistic, but those things can make or break a first date.
Here’s a quick list of things you can work on before you head out on date night. This advice is designed to help you with your outer shell and to make you look polished. Now, what you say and how you act, well that’s entirely up to you! Happy dating!
Four Flaws Your Date Will Notice
1. Acne
Pimples aren’t sexy. If it’s date night and you have a blemish, concealer and a dimly lit bar are your best options. When your skin flares up, re-dedicate yourself to good habits. No squeezing or picking! Simply wash your face before bed and moisturize and splash cool water in the morning, then use sunscreen. To avoid clogged pores that cause pimples, scrub away dead cells by exfoliating every day. I use Astara Daily Refining Scrub. If you feel a pimple coming, dab it with Astara Blue Flame Purification Mask and don’t focus on it. “A watched pimple will never heal,” my mom said when she caught me starring at a blemish in the mirror. Wise words.
Fun Fact: Most men would happily trade a made-up face for a flawless complexion.
Solution: Laser facials and microdermabrasion work wonders to prevent acne and to remove any existing acne scars.
2. Dark circles
If you look exhausted, like you’ve been starring at your computer screen for 12 hours straight, all bets are off. Dark under eye circles age you. Getting 6 to 7 hours of deep, restful sleep is the best way to insure you look fresh as a daisy; it’s hard to fudge that one. But if your date is in a couple of hours try patting a creamy, peach-toned formula like Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind.
3. Fine lines
The best way to get a smooth glowing complexion for a date (and for life!) is to have regular microdermabrasion and laser facials. A recent study claimed that some guys determine if they like a girl based on how well he thinks she’ll age! If your mom looks amazing for her age, pull out some pictures for a little show and tell. Well, maybe save that one for the second date! And re-apply a light moisturizer just before stepping out the door; dry skin accentuates wrinkles. So slather it on!
4. Hairy Upper-Lip or Arms
Unruly facial hair or arm hair can be really distracting in both men and women. Remember that date with goatee-guy or the single outing with the guy who had designs shaved into his facial hair? Yeeeaahh… No, thanks. For girls, the goal is to be hairless and smooth where you need to be, that means sideburns, upper lip, arms and under arms (all the body parts on display on a first date). The only real option here is laser hair removal. The last thing you want is for waxing induced red-bumps or shaved spots with stubble to peek through the morning of your date. Permanently remove the hair; you won’t regret it. (Trust me, female upper lip hair will NEVER be in style).
