This month’s Australian Marie Claire magazine has model Jennifer Hawkins posing naked and un-airbrushed or unretouched. She looks amazing, her skin is really nice, and she isn’t hairy.
I remember the first time I heard about airbrushing. It was probably 1995 when I read this question to the beauty editor in Sassy magazine: “What is airbrushing and how can I do it at home?”
It seems so naïve now, but at the time no one really knew about airbrushing! (Especially not pimply hairy teenagers reading beauty magazines!)
Fast forward to today, excessive airbrushing has turned girls on magazines into fake plastic people that have almost nothing in common with real women. [quote]
At this point, we know magazines covers are airbrushed, so we know we’ll never get skin that smooth. We thought we’ll never get pores so small. We thought we’ll never get legs so stubble-free.
All of the above are things you can achieve without any dramatic or costly procedures!
With a few simple steps, we can easily reduce visible pores.
With laser hair removal you’ll never get that stubbly hairy feeling.
With laser facials you can make your skin glow and produce more collagen.
And, with microdermabrasion you can get a deep pore cleaning that allows you to look as fresh faced as possible. (Did you know that skin radiance is one of the most important objective beauty factors?)
We may not be posing for the cover of Marie Claire, but we pose for birthday pics and vacation pics and everyone wants to look good on Facebook… And feel good inside.
Look Great, Not Fake – That’s my new motto for 2010.

Microderm is pretty good. I had my first session a few years ago when I lived in Florida, and have been doing them ever since. The procedure was simple and straight forward, which made me happy. Although I’m not very old, I hear it really revitalizes dull skin, reduces large pores, and erases fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars. I’m visiting NYC in a few weeks, and I might drop by to see you. Laser Gal will you be around?

Cool post!
@JennieG – I can totally vouch for how awesome microderm is. I’ve had 3 treatments and my skin is totally looking amazing. I’m 27 and starting to feel like age is catching up to me. I know skin can go downhilll fast, so I’m taking proactive measures! Microdermabrasion actually makes skin produce more collagen and I totally see an imporvement. I’m no supermodel but I look good without airbrushing!

How does microdermabrasion actually work? I know it’s some sort of intense exfoliation… but really how does it work? And why is it better than the exfoliation gel I can buy at Duane Read? Thanks, KArine

Forget airbrushing… I want microderm and laser facials! The girl on the magazine is a supermodel and that’s what she looks like without airbrushing? WOW! In real life we don’t have the benefit of studio lighting, makeup artist and airbrushing… So we should take advantage of the tools we actually have…Smooth skin definitely isn’t just for supermodels.

She looks amazing.
But don’t forget your basics. It’s best to have these treatments with enough sleep and lots of water and exercise. Nothing beats being healthy and feeling healthy when its beauty we are talking about.
