Reality Stars (?) . . . And Their On-Air Laser Hair Removal Habits (Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?)

Hi Ya’ll!

The most exciting thing that happened on last night’s episode of the Bravo reality show, Million Dollar Listing, is that Chad got laser hair removal. Doesn’t say much for the show (or for my one-track mind when it comes to laser hair removal).

Anyway, this real estate agent turned reality star Chad Rogers (? yeah, me neither) is beyond obnoxious. He uses cute little dogs to soften-up potential clients, and rolls his eyes like a grouchy teenager when things don’t go his way.

So, Chad walks into his Los Angeles laser center and greets the technician “Hi Miss Eugenia” to which she responds “Hello Mister Chad.”  Ridic! Okay, so the point here isn’t just to poke fun at these ridiculously self-important Californians, the point is that Chad is doing laser hair removal on TV!

Mister Chad begins by telling Miss Eugenia that his main concern is to “not look like a monkey” and she quickly passes him the safety glasses and starts zapping his back with her Luminous Light Sheer. This diode laser is sort of outdated so it’s surprising that they’re using it at this “posh” LA center.

Does Chad look like an ape?

Chad described the level of pain as feeling “like a hundred rubber bands snapping on his back.” This is a comparison I’ve often read on other laser hair removal blogs and websites but I don’t really see how it’s true. I think the power of suggestion is strong here, people go in feeling like it’s going to be “as painful as rubber bands snapping” and low and behold… That’s what it feels like!

As my colleague Will always points out to clients on the telephone, “the truth is, 80% of guys complain that it hurts, and only 10% of women make a peep!” Perhaps women are not only the fairer, but also, the stronger gender??

My first time having laser hair removal, I went in completely blind, I knew nothing and expected nothing. As the technician started on my legs and then my upper lip I remember thinking ‘wow! This isn’t’ painful at all, I barely feel it’. Then she progressed to my bikini, and well, things got a little touchier. It did feel like small tiny pricks. Good thing the areas that are more sensitive (underarms and bikini) are smaller, so the more sensitive parts last only a few minutes.

Anyway, that’s all for now. I’ve given you the low-down on whether laser hair removal is painful.

It’s a beautiful Sunday in New York City. I have an appointment for a laser facial and microdermabrasion booked for tomorrow, so I’ll give you the lowdown when I get back…

Thanks for reading,
